FAQ

LINO PRINTS

What is Lino Printing?

Lino printing is a form of fine art printmaking where the design is cut into the Lino surface with a sharp knife, V-shaped chisel or gouge.

The raised (uncarved) areas represent a mirror image of the parts to that will be inked when printed - yes, I do all my carving in reverse!

The lino block is then inked up using a roller, a piece of paper placed over it, and then either run through a printing press or pressure is applied by hand (or in my case, a Japanese brayer) to transfer the ink to the paper.

The result, a linocut print!

Are your prints Limited Editions?

In terms of how many I print….no, I don’t limit the number I print of each design. However, as each one is individually hand printed, it’s near impossible to print two the same, making each one unique and sort of it’s own edition!

How long will it take for my order to be processed?

If I have the print in stock, I can get it dispatched within 1-2 days. If the design needs printing, please allow 3-5 days for me to print and for the print to dry.

Can you print the designs in other colours?

I do tend to print each design in a few different colours anyway but if you can’t see the colour you’re after feel free to drop me a message and I can see what I can do! laura@sweetholmes.co.uk

I like one of your prints but does it come in other sizes?

Unfortunately because the designs are carved into a lino block, the design cannot be altered in size. However with the A4 size prints I do now offer an 8 x 10” version to give you more options when choosing a frame.

I’ve ordered a print but it doesn’t look exactly like the one in the photo?

Each of my lino prints are individually hand printed, this means that no two will be completely alike and each one will be unique to you. The print you will receive may be ever so slightly different from the website photo, buy hey, that’s the beauty of buying handmade

Do your lino prints come in frames?

At the moment my Lino prints are supplied unframed, allowing you to choose the perfect frame to match your style and your home.

Offering framed prints is definitely something I will look at in the future though.

What paper do you use?

All of my Lino prints are printed on 300gsm Somerset Printmaking Paper in Soft White. It is made from 100% cotton and is archival quality.

APPAREL

How are the designs printed onto your t-shirts?

My original Magic Lino print has been scanned and digitised. It has then been professionally screen printed onto the tees by a local printer. This means the t-shirt’s have a smooth finish where the design is, no wrinkling of vinyl here, and you can even iron straight over the design!

What is the fit like on the t-shirts? Are they women’s?

These tees are a standard regular fit t-shirt, not cropped, not slim fit, not tight.

And no they are not just for women, they are totally suitable for all.

Are the t-shirts machine washable?

They sure are! You can wash them at 40C or below, but do not tumble dry!

I love the Magic Tee, do you have it in any other sizes?

At the moment I only have size small available. All other sizes have sold out. I am looking into stocking more t-shirts very soon though.

The size small would fit up to a women’s size 12 UK or a men’s size S

DIGITAL PRINTS

I want to order a Welcome to the World print, what information do you need?

I will need to know; baby’s full name including any middle names, date of birth, time of birth, birth weight, parent(s) names, and the colour you would like the ticket to be.

I don’t want the typical blue or pink ticket, can you do it in another colour?

Of course, I can do most colours although lighter shades work best with the text.

Will I have a chance to see the print before it gets printed?

Definitely! I need to check that you’re happy with it and the details are correct! I will email you a proof of the print for you to look over before I send it to print. Once you have okayed it and it has been printed, any amendments will incur a small charge.

‘Giclee?’ What is this ‘giclee’ and what makes it different from a normal print?

Pronounced, zhee’clay, this is a fine art print using an inkjet printer. The inks are archival quality and can match hue and tone better than other printing methods. They use archival quality paper too, meaning your prints will last longer.

How long will it take for my print to be made?

I aim to send you a proof of the print within 24 hours. Printing can take anything up to 5 days but it is normally a lot quicker.

I’m buying this as a gift, can it be sent directly to the new parent(s)?
